Social Media Site Youtube launches in South Africa

Google owned Youtube is to launch in South Africa with country specific Youtube services. Over two billion videos are viewed on Youtube every day. Over 70% of YouTube traffic comes from outside the USA. Localising the service is vital for the internet giant.

South Africa will be the first country in Africa to receive dedicated Youtube service.
Google will be placing local servers to provide a local store of videos. This will improve the service to South Africans from a performance perspective.
"We look forward to continuing to improve the YouTube experience for our South African users," said Chad Hurley, co-founder of Youtube.

Google has formed strategic partnerships with local media, including the SABC and eTV. These companies will now distribute content online and upload both old and current television shows.
