17-year-old Steven Ortiz drives a free Porsche Boxster S worth $9000

17-year-old Steven Ortiz drives a Porsche Boxster S worth $9000. No, he headed to Craigslist and made a killing in the trading up stakes.

Ortiz started out with an old phone given to him by a friend. He traded that for an iPod Touch, that for a dirtbike, another dirtbike, and more dirtbikes, a MacBook Pro, a Toyota 4Runner, an offroad golf cart, a good dirtbike, a motorbike, a car, more cars up to a 1975 Ford Bronco, and finally ended up with a 2000 Porsche Boxster.

If that isnt proof of the power of online trading than nothing is!

Google Harnesses the Power of the Wind

Google in Power

Three months ago Google invested $38.8m in two wind farms in North Dakota, developed by NextEra Energy Resources. These farms generate enough energy to power more than 55 000 homes. Recently Google Inc's energy unit has entered into a deal to buy wind power from NextEra Energy Inc for the next 20 years to power data centres.

Google Energy LLC will begin buying wind power from July 30 from NextEra's facility in Iowa at a predetermined rate, saidUrs Hoelzle, Google's senior vice president of operations.

"Incorporating such a large amount of wind power into our portfolio is tricky, but this power is enough to supply several data centres," Hoelzle added.

Nasa Video Game Released

An enduring fantasy of youngsters around the world (and many not so youngsters) is to become an astronaut and venture into a gravity free dimension. Viewing the earth from space is an experience that only the select few are privileged to.

Nasa has released a video game, available for free here. Moonbase Alpha enables gamers to explore the lunar landscape in a 3D settlement on the south pole of the Moon.

"In Moonbase Alpha, you assume the exciting role of an astronaut working to further human expansion and research," Nasa said in an explanation of the game.

"Returning from a research expedition, you witness a meteorite impact that cripples the life support capability of the settlement.

"With precious minutes ticking away, you and your team must repair and replace equipment in order to restore the oxygen production to the settlement," Nasa said

To accomplish their mission, players of the "first-person explorer" game use an interactive command centre, lunar rover and mobile robotic repair units.

"Proper use and optimal allocation of their available resources are key to the team's overall success," Nasa said.

Nasa said the game is designed to "engage and educate students about agency technologies, job opportunities and the future of space exploration".

Youtube Wins Copyright Lawsuit

Viacom, a company with over-the-air broadcasting, TV production, Outdoor Advertising, Subscription Pay Television (Showtime) and publishing assets (Simon & Schuster) took Youtube to court over copyright infringements.

According to Youtube: "This means that the court has decided that YouTube is protected by the safe harbor of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) against claims of copyright infringement. The decision follows established judicial consensus that online services like YouTube are protected when they work cooperatively with copyright holders to help them manage their rights online.

This is an important victory not just for us, but also for the billions of people around the world who use the web to communicate and share experiences with each other. We’re excited about this decision and look forward to renewing our focus on supporting the incredible variety of ideas and expression that billions of people post and watch on YouTube every day around the world.

UPDATE 2:12PM: This decision also applies to other parties to the lawsuit, including the Premier League."

Long Term Brand Building with SEO

Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) is a long term investment in your company. Like most brand building activities, SEO has slower results, and the results will not have a direct impact on your profitability immediately.

Traditionally, marketing that promotes brand building is an inexact science. This is because there really is no quantitative measuring tool that can be utilised in this context.

Web-Writer implements SEO online, which has the double advantage of improving your Search Engine Results Page (SERPS) ranking, as well as wbuidling your brands credibility and presence in the minds of consumers.

However, unlike traditional media methods, Web-Smarts online marketing strategies can be monitored, tracked and tested, in order to understand your online presence, as well as improving your brand image.

Web-Writer Correspondent: Internet Connectivity Problems in South Africa

Problems for Website Designers and Other Internet Reliant Businesses in South Africa

Most South African Internet users, are currently experiencing severe international connectivity problems since Wednesday, 20 January 2010. This means that browsing to international websites and receiving email from international sources has proven problematic.

This issue is a result of a SAT-3 cable break on the London-Bellville link which continues to cause slow international connectivity.

Telkom SA is conducting major maintenance on the fault, with the maintenance window running from 20-22 January and again from 29 January to 1 February. During this maintenance window, most South African Internet users will experience intermittent high latency to international locations.

Technically Incorrect

A survey performed by the Lewis PR company, revealed that twenty percent of Brits interviewed thought Steve Jobs was a footballer(soccer player).

Though many of you are shocked at the mere thought, Web-Writer is not surprised.

This result is unsurprising to us at Web-Writer because "Steve Jobs" really does sound like a soccer player. The name makes you think of a man who spits a lot, pushes his opponents, and stares menacingly at referees.

The fact is, that the majority of the world has no interest in the personalities of the business world. In this same survey, five percent of respondents thought Bill Gates was one of the Great Train Robbers of the 1960s.

Real people are, even in these supposedly technological times, still not quite like tech people.

Selling to real people is about making them feel at ease with picking up a simple, attractive gadget and having some idea of what they might do with it.

And this is something that Steve Jobs, the one who isn't a destructive lower-level soccer player but a brilliant marketer, understands so very, very well.

Web-Writer tech heads create easy to manage websites that rank well on search engines. Visit the Web-Writer website to get a jargon free, straight forward introduction to getting website design without all the effort.

Web Writer Correspondent: South Africa Internet Users

South Africa internet users Stats from Web-Writer

South African internet users has exceeded the five million mark. This represents a more than 10% Internet penetration for the country.

The Internet Access in South Africa 2010 study, conducted by World Wide Worx and jointly sponsored by Cisco found that the Internet user base grew by 15% last year, from 4.6 million to 5.3 million, and is expected to grow at a similar rate in 2010, which means South Africa should reach the 6 million users mark by the end of 2010.

What Caused the Growth in Internet Users?

1. New undersea cable on the South African coast
2. The granting of Electronic Communications Network Service licenses to more than 400 organisations, so that they do not have to buy from larger service providers and can build their own networks.

The market has become more competitive among small players, and the larger business are reforming pricing under the pressure.

"Almost every large player in the communications industry has realigned its business to take advantage of this relentless change," says Arthur Goldstuck.
