South Africa internet users Stats from Web-Writer
South African internet users has exceeded the five million mark. This represents a more than 10% Internet penetration for the country.
The Internet Access in South Africa 2010 study, conducted by World Wide Worx and jointly sponsored by Cisco found that the Internet user base grew by 15% last year, from 4.6 million to 5.3 million, and is expected to grow at a similar rate in 2010, which means South Africa should reach the 6 million users mark by the end of 2010.
What Caused the Growth in Internet Users?
1. New undersea cable on the South African coast
2. The granting of Electronic Communications Network Service licenses to more than 400 organisations, so that they do not have to buy from larger service providers and can build their own networks.
The market has become more competitive among small players, and the larger business are reforming pricing under the pressure.
"Almost every large player in the communications industry has realigned its business to take advantage of this relentless change," says Arthur Goldstuck.
